Carolina Coastal Railroaders (CCR) was founded in early 1992 when a group of men came together at the Country Kitchen Restaurant in New Bern to discuss the future of model railroading in the New Bern area. This group of people decided that it would be a great idea to form a railroad club for anybody interested in model railroading and railfanning.
Informal meetings were held and the name, Carolina Coastal Railroaders, was approved on October 15, 1992. At this time the CCR started with about 10-11 people attending meetings. The membership in August 2012 consisted of 29 full members, 4 associate members, and 3 junior members. Membership is projected to continue growing. In March of 1993 the CCR rented space in a building and started construction of a permanent layout in HO scale. The club outgrew this location, and in 1998 leased a larger location on Trent Road and started construction of a larger HO model railroad based on railroading in North Carolina. In March of 2006, we moved to our new facility on S.Glenburnie. A new track plan was designed for this space. We moved agian in 2015 to another site on S. Glenburnie. We are building a new layout that is about 75% complete.Currently, the track work is complete and the scenery is about 30% completed, and trains are running. The new layout features downtown New Bern complete with signature structures such as the Sudan Shriners' Temple, passenger station, Elks' building and others.
We welcome all those who are interested in model railroading. Whether you want run trains, build scenery, or do trackwork, we have a place for you.
